Zero Waste Kirikiriroa
More than half of what goes into general household landfill collection (or your red bin) could be reused, repaired, recycled or recovered. Zero Waste Kirikiriroa, delivered in partnership with Hamilton City Council (Te Kaunihera o Kirikiriroa), is our solution to making resource recovery easier for communities.
We're bringing resource recovery drop-off points, repair and reuse services, workshops and events closer to your home, hosted at community centres across Kirikiriroa. The aim is simple: make it easier for people to keep useful things in use and valuable materials out of landfill - without needing to travel across the city.
Drop Off Points
Some everyday items can't go in your kerbside recycling, but they still have value and shouldn't end up in landfill, or need to be disposed of carefully due to risk of fire, leachate or environmental pollution. You can drop these materials off at your local community house, where they can be sorted and directed to reuse, recycling or recovery pathways.Lids (metal and plastic)Household batteriesSoft plasticsTextilesSmall e-waste (mobile phones, cords, tablets, remotes)

Repair & Reuse Workshops
We're supporting community centres to run hands on events and workshops that help people keep things in use for longer. This could include repair cafés, bike hubs, clothing swaps and other activities that make it easier to repair, share, swap and reuse everyday items.

“The best waste is the waste that never gets created in the first place.”
Event Waste Minimisation
We're also supporting local events to reduce the amount of waste they create. This includes resources, training and practical strategy planning to help event organisers make better choices about purchasing, reuse, recycling and waste systems.
Our goal is to make low-waste events easier to plan and easier for people to participate in — and the reduces the amount of landfill.
