About the event
Matuku-hūrepo are one of our most threatened wetland birds, and most people have never seen one. You are far more likely to hear one. Their low booming call carries across the wetland at dusk.
Wendy Ambury from Love Bittern is coming to Lake Rotopiko to help you learn that sound.
On this informal walk and talk, Wendy will cover:
· What matuku-hūrepo need to survive, and why so many are going hungry
· What good bittern habitat looks like, and how to read a wetland
· How to identify a boom and record it
